This website is an extension of the Dr. Mattie McGlothen Library Museum located in the McGlothen Temple Church of God in Christ Complex; Richmond, California.

Since we are "partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light" (Colossians 1:12), it is important that we record history of this Holy Woman in the ministry. The establishing of the Dr. Mattie McGlothen Library/Museum and the writing of Dr. Mattie McGlothen: A Virtuous Woman was a beginning of the chronicles of this great woman. Through this website, the chronicle will continue and make the visions of Mother McGlothen and resources on the Church of God in Christ more available.

The Dr. Mattie McGlothen Library Museum is a spiritual sanctuary of historic artifacts, revered with adoration by scholars and the public. The historic value of the library museum lie in the works of Dr. McGlothen, the contributions to the community made by the events that have transpired here and it's innumerable monetary value vested in the priceless pieces of its unrivaled collection in their sentiment.

We value our memories and feel that significant events and teachings should be noted, remembered, preserved and made available for others. We owe so much too so many in the development of the Dr. Mattie McGlothen Library/Museum. The Dr. Mattie McGlothen Library Museum is a spiritual sanctuary of historic artifacts, revered with adoration by scholars and the public.

Dr. Emma J. Clark, Founder

Dr. Emma J. Clark is a native Texan. She and her family have lived in Richmond, California since August 1972. She attended public schools and Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Dr. Clark completed her graduate and doctoral studies at East Texas State University, Commerce. From a child, she was an active church worker. On May 27, 1957, the Lord saved and sanctified her and baptized her with the Holy Ghost. She served faithfully at the Oak Grove Church of God in Christ and Houston Temple Church of God in Christ in Texas before moving to Richmond, California in July 1972 where she joined the McGlothen Temple Church of God in Christ family. She is an evangelist missionary and serves as a trustee and public relations chairperson in her home church.

She has served as public relations chairperson, senior choir member, Founder and Librarian of the Dr. Mattie McGlothen Library Museum, Organizer of the McGlothen Temple Youth Choir, Secretary to the Fourth International Supervisor of Women 1974-94; President of the local, district and state Business and Professional Women's Federation and national membership chairperson of this organization, National Recording Secretary of the Women's International Convention, COGIC Scholars member, California Northwest Union Meeting Secretary, Historian, and many other positions in the Church of God in Christ.

Her employment history includes Head Librarian at Texas College, Supervising Reference Librarian and Interim City Librarian at Richmond Public Library and Sr. Librarian in the Oakland Public Library System. She is retired and currently putting her profession to work for God in the Dr. Mattie McGlothen Library Museum. Building a strong network of Business and Professional Women in the Church of God in Christ is her second love. Annually she conducts a B&PWF Conference.

She is a lifetime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; Board Member of the Richmond Museum of History Association and Friends of the Richmond Public Library and member of other local Friends of Libraries groups and PTA organizations. For several years she served on the Board of the Senior Legal Service for the Elderly in Contra Costa County. For ten years she coordinated the City of Richmond's African American History Month Observance. In 2001, she was appointed to the City's Historic Preservation Commission. She has appeared on two episodes of the renowned Bay Area Back Roads Television Show.

Missionary Emma Clark has been blessed with the gift of help. She has touched the lives of many and God has worked many miracles in her life. She is the author of Dr. Mattie McGlothen: a Virtuous Woman and will publish her memoirs in the summer of 2004, "Heaven's Missing Angel". She loves to say, "I have no sad story.", "Be blessed", and "I love you."

An extraordinatry opportunity requires a unique response. Through her exhaustive and untiring dedication, Dr. Clark has perpetuated the highly regarded reputation of Dr. Mattie McGlothen and of the Church of God in Christ worldwide.
